Environmental Tidbits

Green Ribbon Environmental Committee

Join us for today's Green Ribbon Environmental Committee meeting for updates from the City of Irvine on the Orange County Power Authority and the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan. This meeting will take place on Zoom at 4:30 PM and can be accessed using Webinar ID: 811 3772 7498 and the passcode: 234748.

Electric Lawn Equipment Rebate Program

Did you know that one hour of lawn mower use is equivalent to a one-way trip to Las Vegas and one hour of leaf blower use is equivalent to driving over one thousand miles from Los Angeles to Denver? Let your HOA know that now is a great time for their vendors to switch to electric lawn equipment and help Irvine reach carbon-neutrality.

In addition to a residential rebate program, the South Coast Air Quality Management District is providing up to 75% off commercial lawn and garden equipment for commercial landscapers and gardeners through pre-authorized dealerships. Equipment available through this program includes handheld trimmers, chainsaws, pruners, backpack and handheld blowers and ride-on, stand-on, walk-behind and robotic lawn mowers.

Battery Recycling with Battery Buckets

Orange County Waste & Recycling has generously provided my office with a handful of awesome battery buckets for our residents. It may be small, but together, we can work to conserve natural resources and protect our planet. As you can see, I too, am very excited to start collecting and recycling my own! If you are interested in picking one up at City Hall, email me at LarryAgran@cityofirvine.org.

Cool Irvine Expo

Irvine residents are invited to be a part of something big by helping the City reach its goal of carbon neutrality by 2030 as part of the Cool City Challenge! Learn how to get involved at the Cool Irvine Expo Saturday, August 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hangar 24.  Hangar 24 is located at 17877 Von Karman Ave., Unit 110, Irvine.

This free expo is open to all ages and an online RSVP is requested. Guests will learn about sustainable living, disaster preparedness, and how to get more involved as a Cool Block volunteer — all while meeting neighbors and enjoying drinks, food, and fun games.
